Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) has thrown its weight behind Ghana’s first Winter Olympian in Skeleton, Akwasi Frimpong.
The sponsorship by Ghana National Gas Company is to assist Akwasi Frimpong in his preparation for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
Dr Ben K.D Asante, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company(GNGC), in his remarks stated that the company is ready to support Frimpong as Ghana National Gas Company’s ambassador to enable him sustain his effort to sustain the Ghana brand.
“We are also excited to see him go after something that has never been achieved before in the history of the continent of Africa, a winter Olympic medal for Ghana and Africa at large “ , he added.
Akwasi Frimpong expressed gratitude to Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) for the support provided to him, stressing that “I am grateful and humble to see such an esteemed organization from my motherland, Ghana support me”.
The Olympian challenged other corporate bodies to support sports in the country “ I hope more companies in Ghana follows, because my journey has outgrown just me ; it is about placing Ghana in a conversation that sell the country’s brand in a global scale”
Akwasi Frimpong said it is his aim to make a mark that would be a legacy for the next generation of Ghanaians and Africans to aspire towards greatness.
Skeleton is a winter sliding sports in which a person rides a small sled down a frozen track which lying face down and point head first. Athletes can reach speeds up to 80/90 miles per hour with the chin just inches from the ice.
Frimpong shot to fame in 2016, as the first person in the West Africa to start a skeleton federation.
