Operations

The Operations Division (OD) is one of the most essential division in Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas/ GNGC). OD is made up of the following departments:

  • Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)

  • Security and Marine

  • Gas Processing Plant (GPP)

  • Pipelines & Stations

OD is responsible for the efficient and safe operation of the following gas facilities:
  • Offshore gas export pipeline, which is a 12 inch diameter 58km long subsea pipeline, transporting dense-phase Jubilee gas and TEN gas to the Gas Processing Plant (GPP) at Atuabo.

  • Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) truck-loading gantry located approximately 2.5km from the GPP near Anokyi.

  • Gas Processing Plant (GPP) at Atuabo in the Western Region which has a design capacity of 150 MMScfd and normal operating capacity of 120 MMScfd.

  • Main onshore 20 inch diameter 110 km gas pipeline system which includes the Atuabo Initial Station (AIS), Esiama Distribution Station (EDS), and the Takoradi Distribution Station (TDS).

  • 20 inch diameter 75km lateral pipeline system from the EDS to Prestea Regulating and Metering station (PRMS).

  • The 20 inch diameter 8km onshore pipeline system, which starts at TDS with a terminal station at Secondi referred to as the Secondi Regulating and Metering Station (SRMS) and 24 inch diameter 2km offshore pipeline system to Karpowership at Sekondi Naval Base.

  • Other key infrastructure of GNGC includes the 0.8km onshore distribution pipeline from the TDS to Twyford Ceramics Company at Aboadze and 9km onshore pipeline to WangKang Ceramics Company at Eshiem all in the Western Region.


  • Operations Division is responsible for the processing of dense-phase gas into various commercial fractions of Sales Gas, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Condensate and Pentanes. Sales Gas is transported through onshore pipelines to respective customers for power generation and industrial application (heating). LPG and Condensate are loaded at the Loading Gantries by means of bulk road vehicles (BRVs) to the designated locations in Ghana under the regulation of National Petroleum Authority (NPA).

    Health, Safety & Environment Department is responsible for leading and facilitating the development and implementation of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Integrated Management System (HSE-IMS) in line with best industry practice and international standards. The department plays a key role by championing the promotion of a positive HSE culture throughout the Company and supporting Management in developing, implementing and monitoring relevant Occupational Health and Safety, and Environmental policies, strategies, standards, procedures, programs and processes. This is to ensure that a robust system is created to protect health and safety of workers and others.

    Marine and Security department ensures that the security of all Ghana Gas’ employees, as well as assets are protected from any security threats or dangers. Additionally, the Marine section in the department ensures that all Ghana Gas’ offshore assets (offshore pipelines and the special Marker Buoys) are monitored 24/7. The department also liaise with Community department to sensitise the Project Affected Communities on security matters whiles also gathering intelligence to improve the Company’s operational activities.

    The OD works closely with other departments such as Technical Services, Commercial, Procurement & Logistics, Legal, Finance, HR & Administration, Government Relations, Corporate Communication, Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Relations in its day-to-day operation of the gas facilities.
