GNGC-Karpowership project saves Ghana $42 million

Feb 19, 2019

Ghana, Accra

Mr. Ernest Owusu-Bempah, Head of Corporate Communications on Thursday, February 21, 2019 said relocating the Karpowership from Tema to Takoradi will save the country Forty-two Million United States dollars monthly.

The Head of Corporate Communications explained that bringing the Karpowership to Takoradi will reduce the cost of transporting gas to power the ship for energy production, “changing from crude oil to gas to lubricate the engines for power generation is cheaper and cost effective”, he added.

He also said that the relocation of the Karpowership project is in line with government’s plan to establish at least one factory in every district, stating that this will further create employment for the people.

Mr. Owusu-Bempah was speaking at a Press engagement at the Palms Hotel Conference room on the theme, “Ghana Gas: Industry Overview, Achievements, Progress and the Future”.

The Karpowership was brought to Ghana in 2015 with the expectation of adding 450MW to the national grid. The idea to relocate the Karpowership was in April 2018, where GNGC will supply natural gas to Karpowership.
